One vocal exercise. Once a week. In depth.

That’s the whole idea. We’re keeping it simple!

If you’re curious about how your voice works, and you’d love to feel more in control of it, this is for you.

Maybe you’ve collected warm-ups over the years without being quite sure what each one is for. Maybe you’d love your voice to feel as dependable at a gig or audition as it does on your best day in the practice room. Or maybe you simply love the technical side of singing, and want to get really good at it.

A whole palette of colours

Your voice is like a paint palette, capable of making an enormous range of colours. Most of us tend to stay in one part of it: the blues and greens, say, or the oranges and reds. Sometimes that’s habit, and sometimes we just haven’t found our way to the other colours yet.

The Control Room helps you explore the whole palette, so you can choose the sound you want, when you want it. You’re the one at the controls. More colours simply mean more choices, for every song you sing.

Along the way, you’ll get to know your own voice really well: what it can do, how it responds, and what it needs from you on any given day. That understanding is yours to keep, and you get to use your skills in whatever way you choose.

Small shifts add up

Vocal control grows from understanding what your voice is doing, and practising it little and often. It’s tempting to work on everything at once. The Control Room does the opposite: one exercise at a time, explored properly, so it has a chance to stick.

Commit to that, and you’ll feel your control growing week by week.

Every month, we’ll explore one of my essential exercises: a carefully chosen set of foundations, each working on one of the key things your voice needs to be able to do. They’re the ones I come back to again and again, so you keep building on them as you go.

Fits around everything else you do

The Control Room works brilliantly on its own, and it’s also designed to sit alongside whatever else you’re doing: 1:1 lessons with any teacher, your choir, your band, or your own practice.

To keep the focus sharp, it’s all about technique. We won’t be working on songs, acting through song, or performance strategies. Instead, you take each exercise wherever you need it, whether that’s a solo, a harmony line, or an audition.

What each session includes

  1. A short warm-up, chosen to suit that week’s exercise

  2. What: a clear description and demonstration of the exercise

  3. Why: what it’s for, and why it’s worth doing

  4. How: practising it together, with troubleshooting and time for your questions

  5. Application: how it’s used in songs, what it’s useful for, and how to bring it into your own practice

Sessions are live, so you can ask questions as they come up and get answers there and then.

Good vocal control helps every singer, so whatever you sing (pop, musical theatre, rock, folk, or classical), you’re welcome. All you need is a curious mind and the commitment to show up.
